JARRYD WALLACE LOOKS TO CLAIM FIRST PARALYMPIC MEDAL

Two-time Paralympian. Three-time world champion. Four-time world record holder. These are the titles at the top of Jarryd Wallace’s long list of accomplishments. Now the 31-year-old Athens, Georgia native looks to add Paralympic medalist to the list. Entering the homestretch of a final six weeks of intensive training, he’ll fly out to Tokyo on August 22 to compete in the 100m T64 and 200m T64 with the first rounds of those events taking place on Sunday, August 29 at 6:20am and Friday, September 3 at 8:50pm, respectively.

During the Paralympic Trials, which took place last month in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Wallace won the 100m T64 in a world leading time of 10.99 before taking third in the 200m T64 with 23.55. He was fifth in the 400m in Rio and sixth in the 100m in London.

Jonnie Peacock of Great Britain will be Wallace’s toughest competition in the 100m T64. Peacock won gold during the London and Rio games and hopes to pull off a hat trick with a third podium topping performance in Tokyo. Felix Streng of Germany is the returning Paralympic champion in the 200m T64 and is the favorite to win the event.
