On July 2, 2022, Atlanta Track Club had the rare and unique opportunity to compete right at home, a few minutes outside the city, at Marietta High School in Marietta, Georgia. The Stars and Stripes Classic was the 5th stop on the American Track League circuit. This meet is also a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze level series event.
Samson Colebrooke and Akeem Sirleaf got things started in the sprints with the men's 100m prelim. Both men toed the line in heat 2 for a chance to advance to the finals later that day. Colebrooke won in 10.26 from the outside lane, while Sirleaf finished 5th in 10.44. Both men advanced to the finals later in the afternoon.
Next on the track was the women's 800m. Coming off a 4th place finish at the U.S. Championships, Allie Wilson assisted in pacing teammates Yolanda Ngarambe, Gemma Finch, and Racheal Walters in the 800m. Wilson paced the first lap in 58.0 seconds. Finch, fresh off a sixth-place performance in the British Championships 800m was just a step behind her. Finch, Walters, and Ngarambe let a small gap form between themselves and Wilson as they approached the 600m mark. Finch maintained her position with a strong final 200m to finish 2nd in 2:02.99, a Season's Best performance for her. Ngarambe surged hard over the final 100m to finish 3rd in 2:03.05. Walters finished 5th in 2:08.85.
Back on the track in the 100m Finals was Akeem Sirleaf and Samson Colebrooke. Colebrooke was in the first heat and got out the blocks well to finish 4th overall in 10.34.Sirleaf finished 6th in heat two in 10.50 seconds.The last event on the track was the 200m. Sirleaf ran the bend effectively and surged aggressively in the final 50m. He ran 20.57 in the 200m for the 2nd fastest time of the day overall.
