ATLANTA TRACK CLUB TRAVELS TO CALIFORNIA FOR FAST RACING AT THE SUNSET TOUR

With a week out from the World Championships, Atlanta Track Club sent a small group to California for part two of the Sound Running Sunset Tour. On July 9th, 2022, four elite women toed the line for some fun and fast postseason racing at Occidental College’s Jack Kemp Stadium in Los Angeles,California.

Yolanda Ngarambe is set to represent Sweden in the Women’s 1500m for the World Championships this upcoming week, but she stepped down in distance to race an 800m for final prep. In the first heat of the Women's 800m, Ngarambe stayed in the top two the entire time and made a strong push for first, after opening in 57.80. Kicking hard down the homestretch she finished in 2:02.52 for second place.

Sadi Henderson and Olivia Baker were next in the second heat of the women's 800m. Olivia Baker stormed to the lead from the start, covering the first 400m in 58.43, while Henderson was directly on her shoulder at 58.56. Baker pushed for separation with 300m to go and cruised to a wire-to-wire victory in 1:59.57.  Henderson finished in 2:01.76 for a 6th place finish. Baker's win was her fifth sub 2 minute run this outdoor season, having previously never broken 2 minutes over 800m.

Allie Wilson, who was competing in the mile, was the last one on the track for the elites. Stepping up in distance Wilson ran smart and conservative, tucking in the top four until pushing for the front with 300m left. She ran 4:26.04 for a 2nd place finish. This was a 10 second Personal Best and Team Record.
