Over the weekend, seven elites competed in the Ed Murphey Classic hosted in the birthplace of Rock 'N Roll in Memphis, Tennessee! This world-class event was part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver Series. This meet was held at the Billy J. Murphy Sports Complex at the University of Memphis.
On Friday ,July 29, 2022, Gemma Finch and Rachael Walters were first on the track for the women’s 800m. Finch finished 5th in 2:03.98, and Walters finished 10th in 2:07.33. Two hours later Allie Wilson toed the line for the women's 1500m. Stepping up in distance, she went out with the early pace and stayed in the front pack. These efforts led her to a 3rd place finish in 4:04.02, establishing a new season's best and personal best.
On Saturday, July 30, 2022, Samson Colebrooke competed first in the men’s 100m prelims. Colebrooke finished 7th in his heat. Shortly after, Shane Streich, took the track to compete in the men's 800m. Streich finished 7th in 1:47.25 after easing off the early pace and staying in the middle of the pack. This seventh-place result set a new season’s best. An hour later Akeem Sirleaf got in the blocks for the men’s 200m. He finished 4th in 20.66, producing his third fastest time in the distance for the outdoor season. Running last on the track for the elites was Olivia Baker competing in the women’s 800m. Baker was at the front of the race the entire time going through 400m in 57.47. She finished 2nd in 1:59.44, breaking the two-minute barrier for the sixth time this outdoor season.
Last weekend, on July 22, 2022, Allie Wilson and Sadi Henderson participated in the Fleet Feet Liberty Road Mile in Downtown Pittsburgh. Wilson finished 4th in 4:31, and Henderson finished 7th in 4:40. Henderson’s 7th place finish was a one second PB and Wilson’s 4th place finish established a new road mile PB and road mile team record. Henderson went to Cleveland, Ohio, the following day to compete in the Guardian Road Mile. Henderson ran 4:41.04 for an 8th place finish.
